I have just completed refresher driving lessons with Dawn. I have been driving for over 30 years, but I have lost my confidence to drive especially on motorways and dual carriageways. Being a really nervous driver I didn’t think I’d ever be able to pass my driving test. Dawn made the lessons easy and got me to the point where I could do roundabouts laughing instead of stressing. When I got my own car she did lessons with me in it so I could get used to it and When coming up to my test dates she sourced therapy techniques and even a conversation with a therapist to help with techniques to get me through. I passed today with no minors and am so so pleased. Would 100% recommend Dawn, especially if you are a nervous driver. Thank you so so much Dawn for putting up with me x

I passed my test last week with Dawn after failing with other instructors previously. I personally preferred having an LGBT+ friendly woman teaching me, but beyond that she taught me how to be a safe driver and understand what was going on, not just tricks for passing a test. I have ADHD and chronic health conditions which Dawn was understanding and patient of, finding ways to work around this that suited me. Can't recommend enough 🙂

She is so calm and easy to get along with and her teaching style is really professional and patient. Passed today with Dawn, her teaching approach is very attentive and calm. I was always made very comfortable in each lesson and learned many valuable tips and tricks. She was my second instructor and was just meant to be a temporary refresher lesson teacher but I learned more in the 10 hours or so in lessons with her than the 20+ with my previous instructor. Also, she responds very promptly to messages so I was able to book a last minute test without any issues on her side.

I started with Dawn early Nov and passed my test mid Dec! Dawn was great and really put me at ease, she's professional but also relaxed enough to be able to have a bit of a laugh. The LDC method is much better than a previous driving school I tried a few years back, the lessons are well structured and you are in complete control of the pace. Each session brought some new skills to learn which kept things interesting and challenging, without ever feeling overwhelmed. I really enjoyed our lessons, I think I'm going to miss them now that I've passed! Highly recommended!

Dawn was my driving instructor for 5 months. With no previous driving experience, learning to drive had its up’s and downs. Some lessons driving really well and others were confusing and difficult as I learned the co-ordination and road knowledge necessary to be a proficient, safe driver. Throughout all this Dawn was my calm and patient guide. Not only is Dawn a knowledgable instructor, she understands that every person is an individual and has the talent to be able to change her coaching style which enabled me to get the best from every lesson with her. She encouraged me to think for myself in situations as they occurred on the road and then took time after to discuss how those decisions effected other road users and myself in a non-judgemental way allowing me to learn from my mistakes and become a competent driver. This was a valuable exercise; now when driving i am very aware of traffic and my surroundings and always plan ahead for what could happen. Dawn is a calm under pressure and i always felt safe when driving with her. Her previous jobs as a bus driver and police constable combined with her advanced driving skills I feel informs how she teaches her learner drivers the rules of driving and the roadway to a very high standard. I cannot recommend Dawn enough, she was absolutely an amazing instructor who genuinely cares about her students and is focused on making them safe and skilled drivers. Thank you so much Dawn!

I’m so glad that of all the instructors and driving schools to choose from in Brighton I choose Dawn. Dawn has such a warm and calm personality that she puts you at ease right away. She is friendly, personable and creates a safe space to be yourself and learn to drive at a pace and in a way that is right for you. I never felt rushed and I was able to take my time and go over things in detail when I needed to. I’m not the quickest learner and driving did not come easily to me; I made mistakes and had difficulty in grasping some techniques yet Dawn’s patience was unwavering. She adapted her teaching methods to find the right style for me; she supported me, encouraged me and went above and beyond for me; showing flexibility around my work hours and helping me adjust to driving in my partner's car so I could keep up my practise outside of our lessons.

Looking back over the last year I am so impressed with how far I have come and the confident driver I now am. There were times when I just wanted to quit but Dawn believed in me too much to let me do that and I’m so glad she kept me going. Passing my driving test and knowing that I wasn’t just test ready but ready to get out and drive independently was such an incredible feeling and I have Dawn to thank for that.

I would really recommend Dawn to anyone feeling anxious after a break in driving. I had almost given up hope of getting behind the wheel again, but Dawn helped me set small goals such as driving around the block and practising manoeuvres in a quiet setting, and I was able to feel I had made progress, and feel positive about the idea of continuing in future which was a huge breakthrough. Dawn is very patient, calm and knowledgeable and I found it a really supportive environment in which to start driving again. Dawn also sent me some materials to help tackle driving anxiety which was really helpful.

Learning to drive with Dawn was literally a dream. I don’t think I’ve ever been made to feel more comfortable when learning a new and challenging skill. I think the entire LDC approach, including the book and videos, really helps provide the basis for an organic, supportive and motivational way of learning, but for me, it was Dawn’s compassionate, friendly, understanding, and respectful teaching style and wonderful personality that gave me the confidence and the tools to pass. Dawn Kitson was my driving instructor, during our sessions she encouraged me to take responsibility for my own learning, progress and development. At the end of every lesson she asked me to consider what I wanted to focus on the following session and reminded me to read the passages in the book and the video clips, as well as to observe other drivers. Then at the start of each session she would ask me what I thought I needed to improve on and why, depending on my thoughts and her observations we would discuss these elements prior to setting off. Therefore I lead the focus of the lesson, and she nurtured my development through that. During sessions whenever we came to challenging situations, or my actions / performance required analysing, Dawn would open a discussion with ‘How do you think that went?’, she would then give me time to think, reflect and consider how I handled the situation, if I could have done better, how I could of done better. Only if I couldn’t give an answer, or my answer needed expanding on, would Dawn step in and adjust my thoughts. She encouraged me to talk through my own solutions to the problems I was presented with. The way that Dawn works allowed me to always be open and honest about my progress, the elements that I found challenging and the areas I didn’t understand. I felt there was nothing I couldn’t discuss, I was at ease asking even the most ‘stupid’, obvious questions. Ones I thought that I should already know the answer to. When I did make mistakes Dawn encouraged me to see this mistakes, solve the issue and guide me through any misconceptions that may have resulted in the mistake in the first place. At the end of the lesson, we discussed the session and the progress made. Dawn would ask me how confident I was feeling on the areas covered in the session. Then, as stated at the start of this document, would prompt me to consider the focus for the next lesson etc. Dawn’s outgoing manner, calm approach, questioning and thought provoking approach I believe allowed me to be calm, remain focused, challenge myself and progress my learning and enjoy myself.

Dawn was great throughout the entire process. By using the book and her coaching, she was able to give me clear instructions in how I would progress in terms of my driving and increased my confidence on the road lesson by lesson. She allowed me to go at my own pace and did not force me to do things I felt uncomfortable doing. Even when mistakes were made, Dawn remained calm and talked you out of the situation and then allowed time to reflect, meaning you learnt very quickly from your errors and they were often not repeated. I would recommend Dawn for anyone in the Brighton area.

I've been learning to drive for three months now and Dawn's coaching approach has hugely helped me in terms of solidifying my learning lesson to lesson. The combination of the LDC book and Dawn's coaching and reflection after each lesson means that I am able to learn, practice and assess my progress each time I drive. Dawn is clear and informative in her explanations and asks me for my interpretation/understanding of each situation as it arises. This allows me to think independently and compound my own learning which in turn gives me confidence in my own abilities. Dawn's approach makes me feel in control of my own learning and gives me satisfaction from achieving my goals and a feeling of progression lesson to lesson. The LDC system is also particularly affective at mapping a route to the end goal and visually representing how you are getting along. This is brilliant in explaining the goals that need to be achieved and how you might get to them which is critical to an on going sense of progress.

I gave up on the thought of driving again after 2 previous instructors just weren’t right for me until for my birthday this year. A 2 hour driving lesson was thrust at me and Dawn knocking at my door on a sunny Tuesday morning. Fast forward 7 months and yesterday I passed my test first time and truly believe it’s very much down to Dawn and the LDC way of teaching (with the book and videos on YouTube). If you need someone who has the patience of a saint (or hides the impatience well), is reliable, explains stuff in idiots terms and loves cats as much as you do then you need to call Dawn.

It’s hard to summarise the extent to which Dawn and the LDC method improved my confidence and ability to drive. Having spent a year, and failed three driving tests, with a different driving instructor and driving school, I had all but given up on learning to drive. Dawn’s supportive, calm, respectful and friendly manner signalled an immediate shift from what I was used to. It took a little under a year but with the help of Dawn, the LDC handbook and the various video resources Dawn sent me, I gained the ability to drive safely and with confidence. From encouraging me to exercise my own judgement during manoeuvres to discussing, managing and learning to deal with actions that made me anxious, such as busy traffic circles and pulling over somewhere “safe, legal and convenient”, Dawn truly went above and beyond in ensuring I felt comfortable and confident when driving alongside staying accountable for my own and other road users and/or pedestrians safety. It took me a while to pass my test, but I’m soo glad that when I did pass it was with Dawn. Having previously begun lessons with another company and not made the progression I should have I was recommended Dawn by a colleague who had just passed her test under Dawn's tuition. I immediately found Dawn to be a patient, methodical, professional and supportive instructor. Dawn also has a wonderful sense of humor and made lessons very fun and enjoyable. Her lessons were always well structured and Dawn would often email me further information, tips and help between lessons. All maneuvers and techniques were explain clearly and thoroughly, and Dawn would always take the time to make sure that I fully understood a maneuver before moving on. I always felt comfortable with Dawn and her lessons have given me a real confidence as a new driver. I could not recommend Dawn enough!

I passed first time with only 4 minors! I am so glad I got to work with Dawn, she goes at your pace and the lessons are controlled by you. She put me at ease straight away and I always felt comfortable in the car with her. If you are unsure of something, she will explain it thoroughly and will let you practice as many times as you need! I didn’t have much confidence when I started in January but by the time I had passed I was a completely different driver! I would 100% recommend learning with Dawn!

Dawn never gave up on me. She was always supportive, and we would always repeat manoeuvres until I felt confident. Dawn went above the standard to make sure I can drive after passing my test, for example, she taught me how to bay park between cars. Furthermore, she sent me links to articles and websites to further my learning but also to calm my nerves. Whilst, I did not pass first time I feel confident on the road and ready to drive on my own. The LDC system was very helpful and I always felt in control of my learning and lessons as you can plan ahead. I was apprehensive about learning to drive, as I was worried about having a bad instructor, but I got in contact with Dawn and never looked back. She was able to put my mind at rest about learning to drive and got me on the road as soon as possible, using locations familiar to me and then slowly building up to locations less familiar. After having a taster lesson with another company, after two hours I couldn't even move the car and was beginning to think driving wasn't for me. Dawn was recommended to me by a friend and after 15 minutes in the car with her I had the basics of clutch control down. She is incredibly patient, and will never make you feel worried, or rushed. Every issue that arised during my lessons, Dawn knew exactly what to say to help me both understand, and correct the issue. The LDC system, including a textbook and a DVD, was very useful between lessons to prepare for the next set of exercises.

At first, I was very nervous about it, especially as it's a lot of money to me and I wasn't sure who would be the best to teach me because I struggle when it comes to learning new things. I found LDC online and read how they use an alternative teaching method, this interested me because different teaching styles sometimes work for me and set LDC aside from other driving schools.

Brief explanation: the LDC method likes to use positivity to help students excel rather than pointing out and focusing solely on your faults. The day after phoning LDC to book my lessons, I received the driving skills booklet and paperwork in the post I also got a phone call from my driving instructor who had been allocated to me already-which I was very impressed with, to arrange driving lessons. Because I had already received the book before my lesson started, I was able to start revising pretty much immediately. When I started my lessons, it became apparent that I may find it difficult to combat the practical side of learning, However, Dawn had a brilliant way of teaching and sure enough, after a few lessons, Dawn had got me far from the nervous, unsure person that I was when I first got in the car.

Overall the whole thing was very organized Dawn was always very punctual and I felt always very informed. Every question was always answered no matter how ridiculous I thought the question may sound. The lessons on the DVD or YouTube and also in the book are so useful and so informative, you would be silly to use a different driving instructor and driving school. If you want to pass first time without issue and leave behind the woes and worries that come along with doing your driving lessons and test, you have to use Dawn Kitson and no alternative. Listen to her advice and do the homework beforehand, and you will pass, it's a simple as that. I honestly genuinely did not think that I would pass first time it was a tense decision to get on with actually learning to drive and getting my license. I Know without Dawn, my chances of Passing first time would have been next to none.

Quite simply I couldn’t have asked for a better instructor than Dawn. She made every lesson enjoyable and was endlessly patient with me – even when I despaired of ever mastering reverse bay parking! I’m really pleased I chose to go with LDC as their learning programme suited me really well and I liked being able to read the theory behind what I was learning. Dawn knew the programme inside out and had lots of useful tips and techniques to help me get to grips with everything. Dawn was always on time for every lesson and was happy to talk outside of our sessions as well to answer any questions I had. I’d been learning to drive “on and off” for around 15 years, continually struggling with my motivation and never quite clicking with my instructors. My partner had seen Dawn’s learning car around the city and suggested giving her a call. On meeting Dawn, she was really friendly, professional and took time to explain LDC’s learning style and what to expect from my lessons. From meeting for the first time I felt at ease and eager to start. Me being a ‘mature’ student she was totally unphased and professional. I passed first time with only 2 minors from LDC. I was recommended Dawn and LDC from three separate people so looked further into their methods. The use of the at home study booklet and DVD were very appealing to me, as I knew very little about driving or cars these gave me the confidence each lesson to learn new things as I could read up and watch the DVD before our lessons which helped immensely. A very important part of learning to drive for me was finding the right instructor. Once I had contacted Dawn, we arranged for her to visit me to look at the different courses available, after this I knew Dawn was the right instructor for me. Her patience and friendliness kept me going! We went at the pace that suited me and if I didn’t understand something we would keep working on it until it clicked. Having stopped for a year after a couple of confidence-crushing lessons with another instructor, and feeling much less than positive about driving in general, I found out I needed to get my licence over a three month period for work. Dawn was the perfect woman for the job. Her approach was calm and reassuring. We took it at the pace I needed, and the LDC framework enabled me to prepare in advance of each lesson using the book and DVD, developing my understanding of best practice and the Highway Code; this preparation made me feel a lot more confident when I sat in the driving seat for the next lesson!
